FAQ
HOW MANY SESSIONS IS IT RECOMMENDED I SIGN UP FOR?
WHAT HAPPENS IF I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND MY BABY NEEDS ME?
3-6 sessions are recommended for new moms, although there is no limit to how many sessions you can sign up for. Coaching can continue as long as you like or feel is useful.
We are mothers too, so we know the importance of you needing to be available to your child. If you need to tend to your child while participating in session we understand. Nursing during session is acceptable.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THERAPY AND COACHING?
WHAT IF IT TURNS OUT I NEED THERAPY AND NOT COACHING?
Psychotherapy is a treatment modality used for individuals who have a diagnosed psychiatric condition and struggle with day to day functioning. The intent of therapy is to assess and heal medical illness. Coaching stems from positive psychology, and uses psychological theory and techniques to help our clients reach their full potential. Coaching operates from the perspective that clients are already functioning, but can use mentorship and support to reach higher levels of achievement and life satisfaction. At Smiling Mom we don't believe that just because you are having some difficulties with motherhood that you have mental illness.
If you need therapy our experts will recommend you other service options. You can choose to terminate coaching at that time or keep your coach in addition to your therapist.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SIGN UP?
You can sign up any time, but it is highly recommended you sign up during your third trimester. This is because signing up for sessions will be one less thing for you do after birth (and we know there is a ton). Another reason is that you will have a stronger bond with your coach if you start the relationship prior to your birth experience, as your coach will know you better and have a greater sense of how you are developing into your new role.
