Open House=Teacher’s Red Carpet

Open house is always a fun time of the year. All those really cool projects we’ve been putting off grading compiling all year long finally come out of the dust-filled cabinets and cover our classroom. Fun math estimation games are set out, video of the kids’ speeches are playing softly in the background.

And we, the teachers, stand there smiling.

“Oh, how is my son doing in class?” multiple parents ask.

“Fine, just fine! You have a lovely son.” we reply, whether or not it’s true.

“Oh Mrs. Smiling Mom, you look lovely! My daughter has just had the best year. Thank you so much.”

I smile and nod, eating up every compliment.

“Mrs. SM, can I get a picture?”

“One at a time, folks. One at a time. There’s enough of me to go around.” :-)

It’s all praise and happiness at Open House. Parents are on their best behavior, kids are on their best behavior, and we the teachers are on our best behavior.

It’s like the Red Carpet for teachers.
