Nonnie makes an appearance

Mary Poppins Nonnie, my mom, flew in from San Diego last night.  Here highly anticipated arrival has been quite the topic of conversation around our house lately.

BC:  Is it my birthday yet? Is Nonnie coming?  Why is she coming?  Is she coming for my birthday?  Why?  When is Nonnie coming?  and on and on and on…

eClaire also was quite excited to see her approach our van at the airport.  When it dawned on the otherwise mute child of mine that Nonnie was here, she went absolutely crazy!

eClaire: (Hands covering her ears screaming) NONNIE.  NONNIE. NONNIE.

The whole way home.  Uh, can we say excited??

A few days ago my dad was talking to the eClaire on the phone.  He loves to get a reaction, good or otherwise.  So he asked eClaire:

Grandpa:  eClaire, Who do you love more? Grandpa or Nonnie?

eClaire:  NONNIE!

Grandpa:  OK, let’s try this again, Who do you love more?  nonnie or GRANDPA!

eClaire:  NONNIE!

I guess she made it clear who her favorite is.

Sorry Dad. It ain’t you.

Off to the Doctor’s I go

So two weeks ago I was making my delicious scones.  On of the odd things about this recipe is that you have to grate a frozen stick of butter into the dry flour mixture.  Well as luck would have it, I decided to grate that little knobby thing at the bottom of my hand in addition to the butter.  Not a big deal, it just slightly cut me.

Fast forward two weeks.

I’ve had problems typing, writing, and putting any pressure what so ever on that part of my hand.

It’s infected.

And swollen.

And is showing no signs of healing.

So I made an appointment with my doctor to get it checked out.  One of the great things about Kaiser, and I’m not always a Kaiser fan, is that you can often usually get an appointment the same day.

It turns out that (drum roll please) my cut is infected!  (I could have told you that!)

The doctor put me on Keflex, four times a day for the next ten days.

Ok ladies, I can’t even remember to take a birth control pill once a day.  How can I remember my antibiotics four times a day?

Today was my first day of antibiotics and I have remembered two of three pills.

I think I’ll be taking the pills for the next 20 days.  All because I can’t get enough of my delicious scones!

Makeover Monday err Wednesday?

OK, it’s Monday, right?  Seriously, it’s Wednesday already?  What a week.  This is our last week of school before our glorious 6 week break.  I worked Monday and Tuesday, so technically I’m done working for this school year.  But today I met the kids at the park for the end of the year field trip, and on Friday I’ll go back into school for a final goodbye.  This week has been packed with non stop movement.

Last week’s Makeover Monday goal was to finish my report cards by Tuesday.  I did.  Thank goodness.  It gave me more time to tie up all the other loose ends at school and at home.

This week’s goals all have to do with BC’s third birthday party this coming Saturday.

  • Pick Nonnie up from the airport on Thursday night
  • Clean, mop, clean some more
  • Buy a pinata for Saturday (BC: I want a PINATA!!!)
  • Execute the perfect, inexpensive, birthday party for a three year old.  This includes a beading station, decorate inexpensive Michael’s visors, collect candy from the pinata, food, and beer for the adults.  :-)

I have to say that I’m about as excited as BC is for this coming birthday.  It should be fun!
